I am a 26 year old, self-taught portrait artist based in Berlin working with oil-paint in a hyper-realistic style. For me, the most sacred part of my practice and the reason why I paint is the process and not the final result. My paintings take me several weeks to complete allowing me to form a connection to the person i’m painting, noticing all the unique features and appreciating how every individual is so different.
I like to use strong colours, shadows and props to help the person i’m painting show their own personality, and step into a moment of performance or self-revelation. This time between me and the sitter ends up becoming something timeless and fleeting, like a memory.
I can’t decide for others how to feel and respond to my paintings and nor do I want to, but I do believe humans have always had a natural curiosity to look at other people. Meaning is not prescribed in my paintings, rather it is shaped by personal experiences, emotions and perspectives within the painting itself and the viewer.
